what is emdr (Eye Movement - Desensitisation & Reprocessing) ?
EMDR is a highly effective clinical treatment which has successfully helped over a million individuals.
It is a powerful and rapid therapy that helps your brain process and make peace with troubling memories. It does this by using rapid eye movements or taps to guide your mind in a healing direction. It's like helping your brain reorganize and let go of emotional baggage.
EMDR is not a form of hypnosis, and it doesn't erase memories. Instead, it helps the mind naturally process past traumas, enabling you to live more fully in the present. Traumatic memories transform into ordinary memories that no longer have a hold on you. EMDR empowers you to make new choices without fear and unburdened by the past.

is 'group emdr' a thing?
Yes! The Kintsugi Circle uses an effective method called EMDR Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (EMDR G-TEP), which was first created in 2013. G-TEP originally came about for dealing with big disasters and humanitarian crises. Studies have shown it to be very effective at lessening the symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety and stress - whether it's from many little things adding up, a recent big stress, or traumatic experiences. People all around the world are using it now and it can be used effectively online or in-person.

What are the advantages?
1) In group EMDR, you don't have to talk about your traumatic experiences with everyone. Instead, you'll use a worksheet to track your progress and receive guidance on self-tapping. The sessions help you deal with and reduce the impact of those experiences without the need to share them out loud.
2) Being in a group makes you feel like you belong and gives you more emotional support. It's comforting and reassuring to be with others who've been through similar tough times, showing you that you're not alone in your experiences.
OTHER ADVANTAGES -
* Fast results!
* Easy to learn
* Structured
* Guided process
* Teaches stabilisation and stress management
* Versatile

* Guided Self-Help - you do your own tapping -
what is the 'kintsugi' part about?
Once you've worked through your trauma, the next step in your journey is finding new understanding and growth from your experiences. We call this "Post-Traumatic Growth."
This involves a meaningful therapeutic exercise where you create your own version of Kintsugi. You'll receive a Kintsugi Repair Kit and get guidance on breaking and repairing your own personal item with gold lacquer. While doing this, we'll help you rediscover your worth and beauty even in times of brokenness.
In these sessions, we'll have more open conversations and reflections on related topics and our personal experiences. This is where we celebrate the new and improved you!

Is this for all types of trauma?
EMDR therapy and the principles of The Kintsugi Circle are effective for various kinds of traumas. However, our current Circles specifically target traumas connected to relationships.
Keep an eye out, though, because we're planning to launch new Circles that focus on traumas associated with the Lockdown/COVID Pandemic and Bereavement/Grief in the near future. To stay informed about these upcoming Circles, please subscribe to our mailing list for notifications.
